Construction is racing along at the Saban Center, Tuscaloosa’s $120 million STEM learning hub being built in the River District downtown, and the former King and Queen of Alabama Football were there Monday morning to celebrate its “topping-out.”

A longtime builders’ tradition, this marks when the last support beam is placed at the highest point of vertical construction.

BIRMINGHAM, AL, March 20—Stone today announced its work on the Coca-Cola Amphitheater in Birmingham, AL, and Livano Liberty Park in Vestavia Hills, AL, have earned a national Excellence in Construction Eagle Award. In addition, their work on the Auburn University Jordan Hare Stadium North End Zone Scoreboard has earned a national Excellence in Construction Pyramid Award.

The EIC Awards celebrate 86 of the nation’s top construction projects from 2025, including school relocations; convention center, courthouse and beach resort renovations; and the construction of science parks, apartments and hospitals, as well as honoring contractors for their remarkable achievements in leadership, health and safety, innovation and merit.

Auburn University held a groundbreaking ceremony on Friday, September 12 for its new air traffic control tower at the airport.

Joined by officials from the cities of Auburn and Opelika, the University broke ground on the 109 foot tower that will be complete with a 360 degree observation deck.

The $7.2 million project is said to enhance safety measures and operational efficiency at the Auburn University Regional Airport while helping alleviate air traffic congestion.
